About the Business Informatics Group

The Business Informatics Group (BIG) is a jung and innovative research group at Dublin City University, School of Computing. The research of the BIGroup focuses on various topics around Business Informatics, which is at the conjunction of Information and Communications Technology, Software Engineering and Business Studies. The underlying concept of business informatics forms a coherent methodological approach, which provides synergistic benefits that arise when business concepts are integrated with computing technologies and software engineering principles.

Guided by engineering principles, transformation processes are implemented through a methodological approach. Indeed the holistic and methodological approach based on engineering principles is central to business informatics, which can be summarised as a socio-technological and business oriented subject with engineering penetration.

Business informatics takes an active role in aligning strategy, processes and information technology. This principle provides a systematic design and construction of enterprise information and communication systems. The systems are described by architectures on various levels. Within this framework our research in Business Informatics focuses on Information Systems Architectures and Business Processes, by which we aim to create, apply and validate models and methodologies (architectures) for increasing the value proposition of information.
